Anna Ruth Hammes

Anna Ruth Hammes, age 90, of Fairfield, Iowa, died Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Park Place Elder Living in Mt. Pleasant. 

Ruth was born January 18, 1933, in Washington, Iowa, to Joseph and Eleanor (Pollmiller) Conrad.  She married John Marvin Hammes, January 27, 1953, in Keota, Iowa. He preceded her in death July 22, 2011.

Ruth enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards, and Bingo. She cherished her time spent with her family.  

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Diane (Phil) Tone of Mt. Pleasant; six sons, Gary (Betty) Hammes of North Pole, Alaska, Jerome Hammes of Ottawa, Kansas, Bill (Cyndi) Hammes of Wilton, Iowa, Terry (Diana) Hammes of Standard, Illinois, Tony (Lisa) Hammes of Fairfield, and Ron (Cindy) Hammes of Fairfield; 24 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Mary Faulhaber of Dubuque and Kathy Heisdorffer of Keota; two brothers, Herb Conrad of Birmingham and Merlin Conrad of Keota.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tommy; grandson, Austen Tone; and three brothers, Fr. Sylvester Conrad, Bob Conrad, and Harold Conrad. 

Family will greet friends at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 15^th at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Stephen Page as celebrant. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Memorials can be made to Masses, St. Mary’s Church, or His Holy Face, Inc. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
