Funeral services were held 10:30 AM, Friday, March 3, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ava Pauline Hix was born January 22, 1915 in Marion, Nebraska. She was the daughter of J. Ernest and Grace A. (Relph) Weyeneth. She was a 1932 graduate of McCook Senior High School in McCook, NE. In 1938, Ava graduated from Evangelical Covenant Hospital School of Nursing On Omaha, NE. She served as a US Army Nurse in England and France during WWII, and was discharged in 1945.
Ava married Kenneth Leroy Hix in McCook, Nebraska on February 5, 1946 and they later moved to Fairfield. They were the parents of five children: Gail, Joyce, Duane, Kathy and Daniel.
Ava was a devoted housewife and mother. She was employed as a nurse at the Jefferson County Hospital. Ava was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Guild Circle and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed cooking, especially for her family and Ava enjoyed her card clubs. She was a longtime member of the Friendly Circle Sewing Club and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
Ava is survived by her children and their families: Gail & Joe Gevock of Swisher, IA, Joyce Brodie of West Des Moines, IA, Rev. Dr. Duane & Medora Hix of Cedar Rapids, IA and Kathy & Tom Baker of Fairfield, IA.
Ava was grandmother to: Laura Carder, Linda Thalman, Lisa Gevock, Ryan Brodie, Kristen Brodie, Meredith Hines, Sean Baker, Brad Baker, Adam Hix, Monica Hix and Brittney Hix.
Ava was great-grandmother to: Emily and Abigail Thalman, Sarah Carder and Grace Carder, Trenton Hines and Kamron White.
Survivors include one sister, Evelyn Spaulding of Ferguson, MO, sister-in-law Joyce Weyeneth, former son-in-law, Steve Brodie and many nieces and nephews.
Ava was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, on November 25, 2001, one son, Daniel, one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Carder, and two brothers: Leonard and Norris Weyeneth.
Ava's family will forever cherish memories created by her caring and compassionate love.
