Barbara Sue Mercer

Barbara Sue Mercer, age 68, of Fairfield, passed away on July 1, 2007 at her home in Fairfield.

Graveside funeral services were held 10:00 AM, Friday, July 6, 2007 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, IA. Rev. Danny Cary officiated.

Barbara Sue (Prunty) Mercer was born July 17, 1938 in Fairfield, IA, the daughter of Robert J. and Frances Opal (Black) Prunty. She lived all her life in the Fairfield community.

Barbara was united in marriage with Dennis Lee Mercer on October 31, 1952 in Fairfield. They are the parents of five children: Taffa, Steven, Kathryn, Timothy, and Patrick.

Barbara was a devoted wife and mother, and loved to cook. She was employed as a waitress at the Mac Cafe for 16 years. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, crocheting and sewing. Barbara was known to fellow CB users by her handle "Hashslinger".

Barbara is survived by her husband, Dennis of Fairfield, and their children and families: Taffa Moore and husband Richard of Selma, IA, Steven Mercer and wife Barbara of Waynesboro, GA, Kathryn Sinn and husband Kevin of Fairfield, Timothy Mercer and wife Jean of Fairfield, and Patrick Brinkmeier and wife Caroline of Florida. Barbara has 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Survivors include two brothers and one sister: Robert Prunty and wife Louise of Tiskiliwa, IL, Vern Prunty and wife Diane, and Elaine Lewis and husband Wally, of Alvarado, TX.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sister Roberta and grandson, Chad.
