Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield, Iowa

A Celebration of Life will be held November 3rd,
at the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit on Court St.,
east side of the square from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a reception following immediately thereafter.

She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 30, 1923, the daughter of Chester and Mabel Watson Lunsford, the youngest of five children. She attended schools in Kansas city and graduated from Paseo High School in 1940. She attended Kansas City Junior College two years and the University of Missouri at Columbia for one year.

She married Joseph Howard Crawford on June 22, 1946. He had returned from service in World War II in the South Pacific in November of 1945. The Reverend Louis Meyer performed the ceremony in the chapel at Unity Village. They lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Cincinnati, Ohio, Rockford, Illinois and moved to Fairfield in September of 1998. They had four daughters and one son from their union.
They were members of the Presbyterian Church for 48 years.

Betty was a wife, mother and homemaker for twenty two years and then had a career in Social Services for more than twenty years before retiring in 1990. She worked as Volunteer Coordinator of the YWCA, Director of Mobile Meals for Protestant Community Services, as a social worker for Crusader Public Health Clinic and as Director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Rockford, Illinois. She was a life member of the League of Women Voters, served on their board and was nominated Woman of the Year in 1990.

After moving to Fairfield she was a Pen Pal for the middle school and a volunteer for CASA. While in Fairfield she attended Unity. Unity teaches to accept all people as equals. "I don't feel superior to anyone.
I basically just love people. When you love people it comes back to you."

Anyone whose life Betty touched knows that she was an amazing light in the world who cared deeply about you and and quite possibly prayed for you. Her love was expansive, unconditional and forever. We can honor Betty in our own lives by holding her memory close to our hearts and heeding the example she set.
We will miss you Betty.

She leaves Peggy D. Crawford of Rock Island, Ill., Carol C. (David) Carlisle, Jo Ann (Ric) Hughes, Alice Gail (Jason) Taylor and Charles C. Crawford, all of Fairfield, Iowa. There are nine grandchildren, Charles A. Brader of Fairfield, Lars A. Rehnberg of Rock Island, IL., Anne E. Carlisle of Fairfield, William C. Carlisle of San Diego, CA., Leif C. Rehnberg of Rock Island, IL., Adrienne C. Cox of East Greenwich, RI., Phillip I. Hughes of Albany, NY., Amelia R. Hughes of Ottumwa, IA., Joel E. Rehnberg of Rock Island, IL., and three great-grandchildren, Natalie P. Brader, and Seth R. Brader of Fairfield and Liam T. Rehnberg of Rock Island, IL.
