Betty Lanora Helterbran

February 7, 1928 — March 24, 2011

Betty Lanora Helterbran, age 83 passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 at West Point Care Facility. Betty was born February 7, 1928 in Peoria County, in Illinois, the daughter of Henry Banks and Fern Marie Harper Lingenfelter. She married Paul F. Helterbran on August 9, 1951 in Columbia Falls, Montana. He died November 14, 1975.

Betty lived most of her life on a farm, south of Lockridge, before moving to Ft. Madison. She was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church, a member of the Lockridge Rough Riders Saddle Club for many years, was a former 4-H leader and enjoyed being around young people.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son: Paul Edward Helterbran, 1 step-daughter: Pauline Helterbran and 2 sisters: Ferna Garner of Cedar Rapids and Helen Willis of Ottumwa.

She is survived by 4 sons: Calvin (Sherri) and David (Terri) of Lockridge, Jay (Chris) of West Point and Daniel (Deb Barnett) of Lockridge, 3 daughters: Bonita (Frank) Blind of Stockport, Janet (Gary) Kenel of Ft. Madison and Norma (Kenton) Davis of Fairfield, 28 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 brother: Lawrence Monroe Lingenfelter of Lockridge, 2 sisters: Hildreth Nebergall of Canton, Illinois and Henrietta June Jennings of Wapello and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home, with Pastors Kevin Dice, Ron Vanderhart and Aaron Helterbran officiating. Interment will be at Lambirth Cemetery. (Jefferson-Henry Ave. southeast of Lockridge)

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Round Prairie Baptist Church, Lambirth Cemetery or Hospice of Lee County. Cards and memorials can be sent to 3189 Wheat Blvd. Lockridge, Iowa 52635.
