Bruce Eugene Gowey, 79, of Fairfield, IA, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 4:30 PM at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Mr. Gowey was born November 22, 1926, in Richland, Iowa, the son of Merrill and Anna Gowey. He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School. He married Doris Bagby on October 25, 1953 at the Christian Parsonage in Fairfield. They were the parents of Shirley, Colleen and Deb. Mr.and Mrs. Gowey lived their married lives around Pleasant Plain and Fairfield.

Mr. Gowey was an area farmer, carpenter, truck driver and worked at the Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Mr. Gowey was a lifetime member of the Pleasant Plain Friends Church, a US veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Fairfield V.F.W. Post #2271.

Mr. Gowey is survived by his wife, Doris, one sister, Marie Mayer of Alabama, and his daughters and their families: Shirley and Dennis Smith, Colleen and Harold Smith, all of Fairfield, and Deb and Dean Haney of Libertyville. Mr. Gowey was grandfather to 6 grandchildren: Mike (Shannon) Tucker of Fairfield, Tiffany (Cory) Warner of Birmingham, Heather (Matt) Mercer of Cantril, Matt (Brandy) Tucker of Libertyville, Cory Haney of Cedar Rapids and Justin Haney of Libertyville. Mr. Gowey had two great-grandsons: Gavin Warner and Bryce Tucker.

Mr. Gowey was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herman.
