Charlotte Hewitt

Charlotte Hewitt age 86 of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Sunnybrook Living Care Center.

Visitation for family & friends will be 9:30 am -10:30 am, Monday, January 23, 2017 at Behner Funeral Home prior to the service.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, January 23, 2017 at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Campbell officiating. Following the service burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Charlotte was born February 9, 1930 in St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Elizabeth Dooley Turner.

Charlotte attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, IA.

She had a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State College in 1952, in Business and Girls Physical Education. Charlotte taught in Maryville, Weston, MO, Belton, MO, and Fairfield, IA, retiring in 1992.

Charlotte married her college sweetheart, Mahlon Hewitt in 1952 in Weston, MO. To this union two sons were born, John Robert and James Turner both of Birmingham, IA. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before he passed away February 24, 2007.

Charlotte liked being outdoors to watch the wild life in her back yard or walking at Jefferson County Park. She and Mahlon would travel on their own or take trips with the Libertyville Travelers Club. They raised Irish Setters and would show Irish Setters and English Cocker Spaniels. She enjoyed reading and was an Iowa Hawkeye Basketball fan. Most important, was spending time with family & friends.

Charlotte is survived by John and Beverly Hewitt, and James and Sherri Hewitt, both of Birmingham, IA; one granddaughter, Lena Elizabeth Marie Hewitt; three step-grandchildren; and five step-greatgrandchildren.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and two sisters.
