PRAYERS FOR A CHRISTIAN WAKE WERE 7:00 PM, ON MONDAY, FOLLOWED BY FAMILY VISITATION .

A FUNERAL MASS WAS HELD 10:30 AM, TUESDAY, JULY 19, 2005 AT ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN FAIRFIELD, IA WITH FR. STEPHEN PAGE OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW IN EVERGREEN CEMETERY.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, IA.

Clara, known as Cherry, was born October 22, 1914 in Harper, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Goeldner) Hammes. She was married to Earl K. "Goldie" Swanson on February 22, 1938 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek, Iowa.

Cherry was a homemaker and the mother of three sons, Larry, Robert and Steve. She was an excellent cook. Cherry enjoyed bowling, golfing and was a member of Walton Golf and Country Club. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield and a member of it's Altar and Rosary Society. Cherry was the wife of a past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. #1192, a member of the VFW #2271 Ladies Auxiliary and Eagles Lodge #1927 Ladies Auxiliary in Fairfield, IA.

Survivors include her sons and their families, Larry Swanson and wife Judy of West Des Moines, IA, Robert Swanson of Federal Heights, CO and Steve Swanson and wife Kathy of Silverthorne, CO. Cherry was grandmother to 7 grandchildren, greatgrandmother to 8 and had 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters and 1 brother, Viola Heisdorffer, Dorothy Kerber and Lloyd Hammes, all of Sigourney, IA.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Earl, one sister, Marie and 6 brothers, Richard, Nicholas, Howard, Harold, Leroy and Leo.
