Colleen D. Smith, age 50 of Fairfield, IA, passed away Thursday September 17, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. from a motorcycle accident.

Funeral Services are 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Stockport Methodist Church in Stockport, IA, with Pastors Don Kirschner and Scott Beiker officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 21,2009 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Colleen Diane Smith was born April 18, 1959 to Bruce and Doris (Bagby) Gowey. She graduated from Fairfield High School class of 1977. She was united in marriage with Harold J. Smith on April 22, 1978 in Fairfield. They are the parents of two daughters: Tiffany and Heather.

Colleen lived all her life in the Jefferson County area. She has worked for Jefferson County Assessor since Sept. 12 1988, and attained dupuy Assessor in 2009 . She was a member of Iowa State Assessors Assn., Deputy Assn., and District 14 ABATE merchandise coordinator of Southeast Iowa. Colleen was an active Fairboard member for numerous years, and her hobbies included spending time with family and friends, camping and motorcycling. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends.

Colleen is survived by her mother, Doris Gowey of Fairfield, IA , her husband Harold Smith, also of Fairfield, and her daughters and their families: Tiffany (Cory) Warner of Birmingham, IA, and Heather (Matt) Mercer of Cantril, IA. She was blessed with three grandchildren: Gavin, Kennedy and Madelyn. Survivors include two sisters: Shirley (Denny) Smith of Fairfield, and Deb Haney of Libertyville, IA.

Colleen was preceded by her father, Bruce Gowey, father-in-law Ralph Smith, brother-in-law Doug Smith, and great nephew, Bryce Tucker.
