Family visitation was held 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 17, 2005 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA.
Funeral Services were held 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Stockport United Methodist Church in Stockport, IA. Rev. Mike Renken will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) or Stockport United Methodist Church.
Donald Lee Hoffer was born on February 17, 1927 in Burlington, IA, the son of John W. and Norma Hobbisiefken Hoffer. He lived most of his life in the Stockport community, graduating from Stockport High School in 1944. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran, serving from 1950-1952. After the war, he attended aircraft repair school in Tulsa, OK and worked for a time with Convair in California. He married Selma Piersel in Las Vegas, NV on August 10, 1957. She died September 18, 1993.
Don was owner/operator of Hoffer's Repair in Stockport and also worked as a mechanic with Jefferson County Equipment for over 20 years. He was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church, Stockport American Legion and the Stockport Lion's Club. Don had a love of music and enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Don is survived by a son, Ronald and Gloria Brown of Stockport, IA and a daughter, Susan and Rick Hillgartner of Harlan, IA. He was grandfather to Robert and Matthew Brown and Brandon, Travis and Cody Hillgartner. Don had three great-grandchildren. Survivors include special friend, Lois Beswick and a sister, Judy and Tom Tomkins of Burlington, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Selma and one nephew.
