Dora Margaret McWhirter

Dora Margaret McWhirter, age 86 of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Cary and Reverend Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Behner Funeral Home.

Dora was born July 6, 1926 in Birmingham, to Crawford and Emma Peplow Skaggs. She married Wilbur Dale McWhirter on July 15, 1944 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. He passed away April 18, 1996 at home.

She was a homemaker, sold Avon, liked traveling, playing BINGO and cards. She was also a member of the Bethel Ladies Aid.

Dora is survived by 3 children: Ronnie (Krista) McWhirter of Rutledge, Tennessee, Sheryl Lyon of Fairfield and Carol Hervey of Birmingham, 7 grandchildren: David Topping, Chad (Margie Droz) Topping, Audra (Darin) Gilpin, Kara (Barry) Waugh, Cory (Ann Laux) Hervey, Devon (Craig) Headley and Carey (David) Canaday, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 brother: Howard Skaggs of Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son-in-law: Steven Hervey and 6 siblings: Wilda Booth, Betty Jean Skaggs, Lyle Skaggs, Bill Skaggs, Jim Skaggs and Katherine Pfeifer.
