Family visitation was held 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral Services were held 9:00 AM, Monday, July 25, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with Rev. Mike Metz officiating.

Dorothy Edna Lowell was born July 29, 1909 in Sumner, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Emma (Fuller) Dawson.

Mrs. Lowell was a music teacher of piano and voice from 1924 to 1991. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1926 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1929. Dorothy had post-graduate studies at Drake Universityand Columbia University, including a six-week tour of Europe with a select chorus from Columbia in 1953.

With previous residences in Postville and Eldora, Dorothy arrived in Fairfield in 1937. She was the mother of two daughters, Patricia Lowell McDonald and Barbara Joan Lowell.

Dorothy's many memberships include the First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Sigma Iota Music Sorority, National Society of Arts and Letters (President for two terms), National League of Pen Women, Iowa Federation of Music Clubs (President), National Federation of Music Clubs (assisted with auditions for students and young artists), Fairfield Women's Club, Soroptimist Club, original Committee for Fairfield Concert Drive series. Dorothy was also co-ordinator for the National Federation of Music Clubs for the Iowa State Day in the Bi-Centennial year 1976, held in Washington, DC.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia and Barbara, five grandchildren, Kathy Foster, Kelly McDonald, Lisa, Darrell and Lauri, Scott, and five greatgrandchildren.

Her parents, and two sisters, Mildred Dawson and Olive Schwerin preceded Dorothy in death.
