Dorothy Marguerite Plowman

Dorothy M. Plowman, age 95, of Douds, IA, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, IA.

A graveside funeral service will be held in Leando Cemetery on Friday, October 23rd, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. No family visitation is planned.

The family requests memorials be made in lieu of flowers to Douds United Methodist Church Kitchen, or Van Buren School Foundation. Cards to the family and memorials may be sent c/o:

Dorothy Marguerite Plowman was born June 18, 1914 in Birmingham, IA to Daniel and Wilamina (Johnson) Shirk. She graduated from Birmingham High School and lived most of her life in the Douds community. On August 17, 1933, she was united in marriage with Kermit Plowman in Blakesburg, IA. He preceded her in death May 21, 1997.

Mrs. Plowman was devoted farm wife, mother and homemaker. She was an expert seamstress and crafter and enjoyed square dancing. She was an active member of United Methodist Women, the Women's Van Buren County Farm Bureau, and the Douds United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School.

Mrs. Plowman is survived by her son and his family, Jerry Plowman and wife Martha of Douds, as well as three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucille Pieper, and an infant brother.
