Dorothy Louise Schenk

Dorothy Louise Schenk age 92, of Fairfield, passed away May 4, 2014 at Sunnybrook Living Care Center.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, IA., with Pastor Charles Comfort officiating. A private burial of cremains will be at Grant Cemetery near Rome, IA.

Dorothy was born in rural Fairfield to John Earl and Hazel Elizabeth Hendricks Kane on February 3, 1922. She married Elzie Messer on March 12, 1938, he passed away in 1961. She then married Vernon Person on April 25, 1965 and he passed 1967. Dorothy then married John Schenk on September 26, 1970 and he passed in 1975.

Dorothy has lived in Fairfield for the last 22 years. She worked as a waitress for Princess Café and Hi-Hat Café both of Mt. Pleasant. She had also worked in Housekeeping Department at Mental Health in Mt. Pleasant before moving to Fairfield. Dorothy’s hobbies and interest include, traveling with the Heritage club, bird watching, playing cards and doing puzzle books. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Dorothy is survived by: Kay L. Messer of Iowa City, IA., David M.(Nancy) Messer of St. Louis, MO., and daughter in-law Charlotte Messer of Oskaloosa, IA.; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Sharron) Messer of Ottumwa, IA., Mike (Dawn) Messer of Fairfield, IA, Shawn Messer of St. Louis, MO., and Jamie Burke of St. Louis, MO; 4 great grandchildren; 4 siblings, Alice Ferrell of Fairfield, IA, Lee Kane of Urbandale, IA, Les Kane of Arizona, and Janyce Ganders of Oregon.

Dorothy was preceded by; her parents, husbands, one son, Robert Messer; siblings, Kathryn Shaw, Helen Blue, Leonard (Sug) Kane, Ruth Ann Stevens; and 2 sisters in infancy.
