Dorothy 'Eleanor' Woodburn

Dorothy 'Eleanor' Woodburn, age 90 of Fairfield, IA, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM, Friday, April 24, 2009 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM with Pastor Dave Elmore officiating. Interment will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, IA.

Dorothy Eleanor Woodburn was born in Poweshiek County, IA on October 3, 1918 to Lathal and Hazel (Bedell) Sparks. She graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1936, and the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.

Mrs. Woodburn was united in marriage with Robert E. Woodburn in Ottumwa on February 22, 1941. He preceded her in death June 17, 1995.

She was a nurse at the Jefferson County Hospital, and a member of Fairfield Friends Church. Mrs. Woodburn enjoyed crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children and their families: Bill Woodburn and wife Linda Lee of Fairfield, five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Robert Wayne Woodburn, and a brother, Henry Sparks.
