Dustin Lane Canaday, age 43 of Fairfield, Iowa, formerly of Keosauqua, passed away July 31, 2020, at Jefferson County Hospital.
Dustin was born September 2, 1976, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Danny Rice and Marcia Canaday-Kelly. Carolyn Heaberlin was also a very important part of Dustin’s life in helping raise him. Dustin married Beth Fischer on September 22, 2005, and later divorced.
Dustin graduated from Van Buren County High School in 1995. He had various employments and later went on to become the head chef at Top of the Rock Grille in Fairfield. He was currently employed with Derrick Maynard – helping with local moving jobs.
Dustin’s greatest joys in life included listening and playing music, cooking, and more than anything spending time with his children, family, and friends. He never knew a stranger.
Left to honor his memory are his mothers, Marcia Canaday-Kelly (Keosauqua), Carolyn Heaberlin (Keosauqua); four children, Garret Light (son with Dana Light), Summer Lane Canaday, Mesa Jane August Canaday, Sheamis Payne Thomas Canaday (son with Amber McCloud); step-daughter, Samantha Fischer; 6 siblings, Joshua Kelly (Brooke) and their daughter Evelyn (Bonaparte), Danny Rice Jr., (Burlington), Wendy Rice (Burlington), Cary Rice (Des Moines), Todd Rice (Kansas), and Donny Borrell (Waterloo), aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Dustin was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Danny Rice, aunts and uncles.
To celebrate Dustin’s life, a potluck gathering will be held 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2020 at Jefferson County Park, Shelter house #3 (alcohol prohibited).
