Earl J. Abbey

Earl "Junior" J. Abbey, age 87, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Suzanne Swahn officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Fairfield Fire Department.

Earl was born in Jefferson County on September 10, 1923 to Earl E. and Fanchon Wilson Abbey. He married Shirley J. Baker on October 1, 1961 in Monmouth, Illinois. She passed away on June 8, 2001.

Earl was part owner of Abbey's Shop (lawnmower and repair) and was also a fireman for 29 years. He was affiliated with the 1st Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Earl is survived by 3 children: Dennis Abbey of California, Margo Roach of Kentucky and Brian (Renea) Abbey of Texas, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 2 brothers: Elmer and Bruce Abbey.
