Edward F. Ahrens, Jr. age 91, passed away March 10, 2014 at the VA Hospital, Iowa City, IA.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, March 14, 2014 at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Behner Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Shafer officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery with Military rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Fairfield Swimming Pool Fund or the Keosauqua Swimming Pool Fund. Cards and memorials can be sent to: PO Box 307, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.

Edward F Ahrens, Jr., "The Candy Man" was born September 20, 1922 to Edward F. and Carrie (Shultz) Ahrens in Grinnell, IA. He married Roberta Willson June 4, 1948 in Fairfield. She passed away January 1, 2003.

Edward graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1941. He attended Parsons College for 3 years. Edward served in the Army during WWII. He operated "Ahrens Candy Wholesale" for 37 years before he retired in 1986. In 1992 he and Bert moved to Keosauqua. Edward was a member of the Elks Lodge #1192, Keosauqua Riverview Club and the Circle B Coffee Club.

Edward is survived by his 4 daughters, Abby (Bob) Bemis of Norwalk, IA, Pat Ahrens Peck of Keosauqua, IA, Jane (Bob) Pilz of Santee, CA and Mary (Tom Louden) Ahrens Roland of Iowa City, IA; 7 grandchildren, Scott (Deb) Bemis of Indianola, IA, Troy (Deanna) Bemis of Oskaloosa, IA, Stacy Roland of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sandy (Justin) Roland Lawrence of Cedar Rapids, IA, Hattie Peck of Batavia, IA, Taylor Pilz of La Mesa, CA, Mitch Roland of Cedar Rapids, IA; 1 niece, Becky Ahrens Hauser of Grinnell, IA; 5 Great Grandchildren; 2 brother-in-laws, Roger (Maureen) Willson of Pound Ridge, NY, Phil (Sara Foxley) Willson of Omaha, NE; and 1 sister-in-law, Rita Willson of Des Moines, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; parents; 3 brothers, Freeman, Wes and Bill Ahrens; 1 sister, Verna Tullis.
