Esther Winter

Esther Joanne Winter, age 69, of Fairfield, IA, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 at Jefferson County Hospital.

Funeral services were held 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield with Rev. Jim Wotherspoon and Rev. Bill Rathbun officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, or Forest Lake Camp Building Fund.

Esther "Joanne" Winter was born February 6, 1938 in Fairfield, IA, the daughter of John and Esther (Kirkpatrick) Winter. She lived most of her life in the Fairfield community, graduating from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1956.

Joanne began teaching in the Keota School District in 1964 and retired in 2000. Her interests included reading and crossword puzzles, teaching Sunday School, and working in the hospital gift shop. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, the Maxine Bates Circle, Church Women United, the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary, and the Resident Advocacy Council for the Living Care Center.

Joanne is survived by Tiff Widmer of Fairfield, and Sgt. Tara Widmer, stationed in Korea, and a sister, Linda Nielsen of Booneville, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
