Gerald R. Hill, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Living Care Center of the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, IA. It was his 90th birthday.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1:30 PM, Friday, August 8, 2008 at Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, IA. Rev. Danny Cary will officiate.
No family visitation will be held, but friends may sign the Book of Condolence at Behner Funeral Home until 5:00 PM Thursday, or Friday, August 8, until 12:00 noon. Online condolences may be sent via www.behnerfh.com.

Gerald Richard 'Pappy' Hill was born August 6, 1918 in Libertyville, IA to Roy H. and Vada Fern (Parker) Hill. He was baptized November 10, 1928, and had been a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Mr. Hill attended Selma High School and graduated with the Class of 1937.
Mr. Hill was united in marriage with Nada Lavelle Hanna June 14, 1940. They are the parents of three children; Connie, Danny and Donal. He was a farmer for 30 years and worked for Fairfield Community Schools for 25 years.
Mr. Hill had a love of sports and shared that by coaching Little League, Babe Ruth, and softball teams in the Fairfield area for 40 years, from 1955 - 1995. Mr Hill believed strongly in and coached the principles of etiquette, competiveness, fairness, and 'giving it your best', both on and off the diamond.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nada Lavelle, and his children and their familes: Connie Parrish of Keosauqua, IA, Danny Hill and wife Cathi of Washington, IA, and Dr. Donal Hill and wife Mary of Fairfield, IA. He was blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Survivors include a sister, Barbara Jean Maddix of Keosauqua, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law, Jerry Parrish.
