Gladys Ruth Crandall

Gladys R. Crandall, age 89, passed away Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Living Care Center in Fairfield.

The Rosary was recited by the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Mary Catholic Church at 4:00 PM, Monday, October 29, 2007 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Fairfield.

Prayers for a Christian Wake were held 7:00 PM, Monday evening, at St. Mary Church with family visitation following the prayers until 8:30 PM.

A Funeral Mass was conducted 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at St. Mary, with Msgr. Francis Henricksen and Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Gladys Ruth Crandall was born in Stockport, IA on Christmas Day, 1917 to Arthur and Elizabeth (Bucher) Nelson. She graduated from Birmingham High School. Gladys was united in marriage with Courtney Allen Crandall on August 30, 1940. They are the parents of six children, Tom, Shirley, Allen, Suzanne, Karl, and Kris. Courtney died October 9, 1999.

Gladys was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother. She owned and operated Natures Way Health Food Store in Fairfield for over 20 years. Gladys was a parishioner of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Gladys is survived by her children and their families: Tom Crandall and wife Dee of York, PA, Dr. Shirley Crandall of Hyannis, MA, Allen Crandall and wife Susan of Fairfield, IA, Dr. Suzanne Crandall of Des Moines, IA, Karl Crandall of Fairfield, IA, and Kris Crandall and wife Lorrie of North Liberty, IA. Gladys has 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Survivors include one brother, Bob Nelson, of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Frank Nelson.
