Howard Lucas

Howard Lucas, age 89 passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A graveside service, with Military Rites, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Packwood Cemetery with words of comfort by Larry Statler. There will be a luncheon following, at the VFW in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Lake Darling for 4 Seasons Cabins. Cards and memorials can be sent to 205 W. Briggs #111, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Howard was born July 20, 1922 in Farson, Iowa to Merle Earnest and Zella Mable Miller Lucas. He married Marcelle Parcell in Memphis, Missouri on January 1, 1942.

He served in WWII with the United States Army, owned Howdee's restaurant in Fairfield for 10 years and was a truck driver for 25 years.

Howard is survived by his wife: Marcelle, 4 children: Deanna Zillman of Fairfield, Darlene (Phil) Clark of Pleasantville, Merrill (Sue) Lucas of Brighton and Cindi (Jeff) McFarland of West Des Moines, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Ray and Harold, 1 son-in-law: Don Zillman and 1 grandson: Brian Best.
