Irene Mae Filson

Irene Mae Filson, age 80, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, Iowa with Pastor Peggy Egbert officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Iowa.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Cards and memorials may be sent to 2879 193rd Blvd, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Irene was born on April 21, 1931 in Glasgow, Iowa to Ernest and Merle Marie Martin Hartley. She married Floyd Maurice Filson on August 11, 1951. Floyd passed away in October 2004.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a cook for the Stockport Senior Citizens Center, retiring in 2005 and she also worked at the Farmers Store in Birmingham. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Bonnett Community Club. Irene and her husband attended the Iowa State Fair for 60 plus years.

Irene is survived by 4 children: Sandy (Joe) Nelson of Fairfield, Judy (Mike) Nicholson of Batavia, Mike (Evelyn) Filson of Birmingham, and Gary (Deanna) Filson of Stockport, 10 grandchildren: Sara Nelson (Kyle Syfert), Chris Nelson, Kelly Nicholson, Crystal ((Trent) Hammes, Cody (Kristen) Nicholson, Michael Burkhalter, Adam (Lisa) Burkhalter, Danielle (Thomas)) Batterson, Garrett Filson and Cordell Filson, and 6 great-grandchildren: Cassie Nicholson, Keenan Nicholson, Allie Hammes, Aaron Gearheart, Emily Batterson, and Cera Batterson.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, her parents, and 1 sister, Darlene Wells.
