Isabelle Mc Gee Johnson

July 27, 1915 — February 16, 2013

Isabelle M. Johnson age 97, of Fairfield passed away February 16, 2013 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastors Mark Haverland and Pastor Nate Nims officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Behner Funeral Home.

Isabelle was born on July 27, 1915, the daughter of Samuel and Isabella Woodburn Wiley at Lynn Grove, Iowa. Isabelle attended elementary school in Lebanon, Iowa and graduated from Keosauqua High School class of 1934 with a normal training certificate which allowed her to teach elementary school.

On May 5, 1940, Isabelle was united in marriage to Howard Johnson . They first lived in Salina, Iowa and soon after, they moved to Fairfield.
Isabelle Johnson believed in education. She began teaching elementary children at Bonaparte, Van Buren County and Center #9 . She then returned to school and earned her BA degree in Elementary Education from Parson's College in 1959. She taught 3rd grade at Washington School for 27 years. In total , Isabelle taught school for 35 years and retired from teaching in 1981.
Isabelle was also active in the Fairfield community. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher at the First United Methodist Church for 34 years. She was a member and served as an officer of the United Methodist Women organization. Isabelle was a member of many bowling teams and played golf for many years. She also donated much time to the Girls Scouts and Brownies, the Jefferson County Republican Women, W.C.T.U., Women's Bowling Association, Women's Golf Association, Lionels and Lions Club.

With all of Isabelle's activities, she still found time to create and sew quilts. She made over 21 hand stitched and beautiful quilts, which she gave to family and friends.

Isabelle is survived by her husband: Howard Johnson of Fairfield, 2 children and families: Jean (Tim) Ledvina of Gainesville, Florida and Howard (Lois) Johnson of Altoona, Ia., 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Isabelle was preceded by her parents, 3 brothers: Samuel, James and Robert and 3 sisters: Jane, Josephine and Margaret.
