Iva "Arlene" Nelson

Iva "Arlene" Nelson, age 88 of Parkview Care Center, passed away December 26, 2010 in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 30, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery.

Family visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Behner Funeral Home.

Arlene was born on April 20, 1922 to Edward and Iva Ramsey Mercer, in Packwood, Iowa. On April 9, 1944 she married Merle "Skip" Nelson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He passed away August 4, 2005.

She spent 71 years of her life in Jefferson County. She had been a Teacher for Jefferson County Rural Schools, worked at Colorado State University and was also a homemaker.

Arlene is survived by 3 children: Robert (Barbara) Nelson of Kansas City, Missouri, Pamela (Ron) Wolff of Bowdle, South Dakota and Tim (Sherri) Nelson of Libertyville, Iowa, 8 grandchildren: Kristin and Nicole Nelson of Libertyville, Iowa, Karen Nohr of Rapid City, South Dakota, Randy Wolff of Webster, South Dakota, Jess Wolff of Hecla, South Dakota, Jerry Wolff of Aberdeen, South Dakota and Melissa Volpe and Michelle Nelson of Connecticut, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Mary Huddleston of Burlington, Iowa, Jean Marshall of Washington, Iowa, 1 brother: Edward Mercer of Folsom, California and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers: Charles, Gerald, Raymond and Richard Mercer, 1 sister: Reva Myers and 2 infant sons.
