James Walter Metcalf, age 68, died on Monday September 26, 2011 at his home in Fairfield.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday September 29, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Cary Officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial of cremains in Glasgow Cemetery at a later date. Visitation for Family and Friends will be Wednesday September 28, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, Ia.

James Walter Metcalf was born on February 6, 1943 in Round Prairie Township in Glasgow, Iowa to Walter and Arlene Steele Lyon Metcalf. He married Rebecca Jennings in May of 1967, and they later divorced. He married Lisa Metcalf on August 2, 1997 in Glasgow, Iowa.
He attended Grant School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1962. His work history over the years included working for John Ziegler on his farm, Courtney's Garage, and American Chain and Cable. He worked as a maintenance man for Dexter and retired in 2009. Jim was a 45 year member of I AM #1293. His hobbies and interests included Fairfield Jaycees, MVSC Stock Car Club of West Liberty and Columbus Junction. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching NASCAR, going camping, and being with his pets.
Jim is survived by his wife: Lisa of Fairfield, his mother: Arlene of Birmingham, step mother: Evelyn Metcalf-Duffy of California, 2 sons: Richard (Aileen) Metcalf of Batavia and Zachary (Sonja) Aplara of Bristow, Virginia, 3 daughters: Roxanne (David) Altemeier of Iowa City, Jenny Klett of Casselberry, Florida and Amber (Tony) Carrier of Waterloo, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by 4 brothers: Allan (Sharon)Metcalf of California, Dennis Metcalf of Wyoming, Robert Lyon of Fairfield and Dave (Diane) Lyon of Birmingham and 5 sisters: Bette Wilkerson of California, Katy (Edwin) Hicks of California, Mary Ann (Vern) Lisk of Keokuk, Vickie (Gary) Glover of Keosauqua and Louise Stammerman of Waukee.
Jim was preceded in death by his father: Walter and grandmother, Lydia Steele.
