James H. Nixon age 65, formerly of Stockport, IA, died Monday, December 22, 2008, at the Villa Del Sol Center in Marshalltown, IA.
Visitation with the family will be 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday December, 28, 2008 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with Masonic Rites starting at 6:00 PM.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, December. 29, 2008 at Stockport Methodist Church in Stockport, Iowa with Rev. Michael Renken officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Spencer Cemetery North of Stockport, IA.

James Hugh Nixon, was born March 7, in Stockport, IA to James S. and Elizabeth (Carmichael) Nixon. He was raised on the family farm south of Stockport and attended Stockport schools. He was active in 4-H , music, and later FFA. He graduated in 1959 and attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating in 1964. He returned to Stockport to farm with his father and raise Southdown and Corridale sheep. He attended the Iowa State Fair for many years and won many ribbons with both breeds. In 1966, he became a member of the 34th Army Band in Fairfield, IA. He retired from the Band in 2001 after 35 years of service.
He married Shirley Beerends Fye on June 7, 1981. He continued to farm and raise sheep until his illness began in 2003. He was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and Workman Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; three stepsons: Bill (Jane) Fye of Randolph, NE, Carl (Jodi) Fye of Gilman, IA, and Joe (Deon) Fye of Portland, OR; seven step-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia (Wayne) Miller of Keosauqua, IA; one half-brother, Jack (Alice) Spaulding of San Luis Obispo, CA; one sister-in-law, Barbara (Ron) Schneckloth of Davenport, IA; five nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Larry Nixon.
