James “Jim” LaVern Palmer, age 76 of Fairfield, passed away, Sunday, October 1, 2017, at his home.
A private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Jim was born June 4, 1941, in Ottumwa, IA to Floyd and Helen (Fleming) Palmer. He married Jane Hayworth June 12, 1960 in Ottumwa, IA and they later divorced.
Jim worked more than 20 years at Clow Valve Co. in Oskaloosa and more than 20 years at Dexter in the foundry. Jim was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, Iowa Hawkeye Football and Basketball fan and liked to follow NASCAR. He collected beer steins.
Left to share Jim memory is his 5 children, Rick (Dianne) Palmer and Ron Palmer of Fairfield, IA, Julie (Ruben) Carpenter of Keosauqua, IA, Terrie Palmer of Albia, IA and Tommie (Amy) Palmer of Fairfield, IA; 10 grandchildren, Eric Palmer, Jennifer Jeffrey, James Jeffrey Jr. Tyra Vorhies, Hannah Durflinger, Cory Palmer, Ashton Palmer, Tyler Krumboltz, Brittney Schafer and Drew Skinner; 9 great grandchildren; and 4 siblings, Ray Palmer, Sally Clark and Patricia Guyette of Ottumwa, IA, and Karan Dean of Cambridge, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Helen Palmer; two sisters, Freeda Slutz and Jan Morrison; and two brothers, Earnest and Floyd Palmer.
