James G. Shafer

James G. Shafer, 78, of Rock Island, IL, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Monday, February 22, at the funeral home.

Additional visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Wednesday, February 24, at the Behner Funeral Home, 203 S. Main St., Fairfield, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Davenport, of which he was a member.

James was born in 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clarence R. and Hazel F. Shafer. He worked as a cost accountant with Williams White Machinery Manufacturing for 40 years, retiring in 1998. Enjoying music throughout his life, James played the trumpet in the CASI Band, the Bettendorf Community Band, and the Black Hawk College Band.

Survivors include cousins Dick Johnson of Rock Island, IL, Floyd Shafer and Keith Shafer of Fairfield, IA and their families; and close friends Hank and Judy St. Clair of Rock Island, IL. He was preceded in death his parents and his good friend, Janet.
