Joe Blain, 66, of Fairfield, IA entered Heaven’s gates on November 2, 2023, at Parkview Care Center after a battle with cancer.
Beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend to all, Joe was born on June 27, 1957, to Donald F. and Mary J. (Arganbright) Blain. Following graduation, Joe worked as a landscaper and painter, completing odd jobs, until finding his greatest occupational success, working at Tenco Industries, Inc. Sheltered Workshop for over 25 years before retiring.
Joe loved being outdoors, giving huge bear hugs, being around his friends, and attending Camp Courageous and Camp Reece during the summer. Joe’s greatest joy came from competing as an avid Special Olympian, taking home dozens of gold and silver medals, and playing Challenger baseball with his friends.
Surviving are Joe’s half-sister Theresa Blain of California; his half-brother, Mark Blain, of Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Sue Blain; and brother, Jerry Lee Blain.
The family would also like to send heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Optimae Life Services, for decades of amazing support and compassion, and the staff from Hospice Compassus for your love and kindness during Joe’s last months.
A visitation will be held, to honor Joe’s life, on November 10, 2023, from 2pm-4pm at Behner Funeral Home, in Fairfield. Joe will join his mother and sister in eternal rest on November 13, 2023, at Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to family to assist with burial costs.
