John Fred Barker 79 of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
Per his wishes he has been cremated. Open visitation will be 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2020, at Behner Funeral Home. Graveside Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, IA with Pastor Ed Conwell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Hill Cemetery or Jefferson County Public Health and mailed to Marie Carter, 3257 Ash Ave., Hillsboro, Iowa 52630.
John was born September 1, 1941, in Fairfield to Fred and Elsie (Ferguson) Barker.
John graduated from Keota School District. He worked as a farm hand for Welkona Turkey Farm and 30 years at Evergreen Cemetery as a greenkeeper. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, mowing lawn and horseback riding. His inside interests were watching Western TV shows, game shows, playing cards and painting pictures. Most important to John was getting together with family & friends.
He will be missed by his siblings, Alice Barker of Fairfield, Marie (Gale) Carter of Hillsboro, and Nancy (Douglas) Oldfield of Wellman; and a niece and nephew.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elsie; two sisters, Martha and Mary Beth; and two brothers, Jackie and Jimmy.
