John L. Nelson, Jr

John L. "Bud" Nelson, age 73 of Fairfield, passed away January 12, 2007 at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

Graveside Memorial Services were held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield with Rev. Richard White and Rev. John Benedict officiating.

John L. Nelson, Jr., "Bud" was born December 14, 1933 in Washington, IA, the son of John Lloyd Nelson, Sr. and Mabel Irene Walker Nelson Edgerly. He grew up in the Douds area and attended Douds High School.

Bud was united in marriage to D. JoAnn Lundquist on December 22, 1954. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters: Joyce, James, Joseph, Janeen, Jana, and Jeffrey. JoAnn passed away April 24, 1988.

Bud served his country in the U.S. Navy for eight years. He was employed at the Dexter Company for over 30 years. He also mowed yards and was the security guard during the Jefferson County Fair. Bud was a charter member of Fredonia Independent Full Gospel and Foursquare Church, and it's mission. He had a deep love of his family and children. Bud enjoyed animals, especially horses and liked to hunt raccoons and squirrels.

Bud is survived by his children and their families: Joyce Calhoun, James Nelson, Joseph Nelson, Janeen (Peter) Gardner, Jana Haynes, and Jeffrey (Sheri) Nelson, all of Fairfield, IA, and Janeen Gardner of Belmond, IA. Bud was grandfather to Jayson & Christopher Calhoun, Kassie & Jami Nelson, Angela, Nancy, & Debbie Gardner, and Janell Haynes. Bud has three great-grandchildren: Taylor, Kaydance and Vanessa. Survivors include one sister, Connie Hull of Chariton, IA.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, Delores Cole Heitmeier and infant twin sisters.
