John Widmer

John Widmer age 68 of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at his home.

Visitation for family & friends will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home. Following the visitation John will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date at Washington Cemetery, Washington, IA.

John was born October 18, 1948 in Washington, IA to Glenn and Jeanne (West) Widmer. He married Karla Eckrich October 3, 1970 at St Wenceslaus, Iowa City, IA. This year they celebrated 46 years of marriage.

John served 4 years in the Air Force during Vietnam. He worked for 32 years as a machinist at Metromail. John attended Indian Hills Community College to get his CDL license. After receiving his CDL license he drove a minibus for Washington County. John was a member of the Eagles, NAMDRA and collected AMC Cars. During the winter every Saturday night John and Karla went dancing at the Eagles Club. He loved spending time outdoors hunting or fishing. If you came to visit you might find him out tinkering with his cars. John loved spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, Karla Widmer; one son, Brian Widmer; two grandchildren, Hunter and Lindsey Widmer; two siblings, Avis Smith and Ann Conklin; and two sisters-in-law’s, Janice Widmer and Isabel Eckrich; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Jeanne Widmer; one brother, George Widmer; and one brother at birth, Glenn Jr.
