J Roy Myers

J Roy Myers age 88 of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his home.

Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Behner Funeral Home.  A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at the Packwood Cemetery with Pastor Dany Cary officiating.

Memorials are to the family and can be mailed to Norma Myers, 1007 South 2nd Street, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

J Roy was born March 1, 1935, at the Jefferson County Hospital to Zerle “Preach” and Mary (Mills) Myers.  He married Norma J. Rebling March 31, 1957, at the Little Brown Church. At the end of this month, they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage.

J Roy graduated from Fairfield High School and after school he joined the Army National Guard.  After the service he attended the Police Academy and then worked for the Fairfield Police Department until retirement. J Roy also did auto body work and delivered flowers for Hy Vee and then Fairfield Flowers.

J Roy watched all sports especially the Chicago Cubs and was a fan of Bill Elliot NASCAR.  His love for racing continued in following his grandkids dirt track racing.  J Roy did wood working and also auto body work.  Most important to J Roy was spending time with his family, friends and his dog Scooter.  J Roy never new a stranger and everybody will miss his big smile.  One of J Roy’s favorite sayings was “If it’s free, it’s for me!”

He will be missed by his wife, Norma Myers of Fairfield; two children, Jaylene (Larry) Doud of Batavia and Tom Myers of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Travis (Lindsey) Tedrow of Washington, Gary (Tamy) Doud of Ottumwa and Terry (Tonya) Doud of Batavia; and 7 great grandchildren.

J Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Preach and Mary; infant son, Jason; and sister, Norma Lee.
