Katherine Kurtz Hodges, age 85, formerly of Brewster, MA, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua, IA.

Katherine Kurtz Hodges was born May 4, 1921 in Akron, Ohio. She was the daughter of Russell and Persis (Newhard) Kurtz and graduated from Middlebury College in 1943. Katherine was a resident of Brewster, MA on Cape Cod, for 35 years, and relocated to Fairfield in 2005 to be with her family.

Katherine was united in marriage with Hollis Hodges in 1950. They were the parents of a son, Jeffrey and daughter, Fran. Hollis passed away in 2004.

Katherine retired after many years as an editor and publisher, as well as an accomplished artist and teacher. While in Brewster, she was co-publisher and owner of the Cape Advertiser, a regional publication. Katherine's love of painting won her several local awards.

Katherine was a dedicated volunteer and a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award at the age of 80, for her work with Meals-On-Wheels and organized rides for the elderly and infirm to medical appointments. In addition, she enjoyed reading to the blind, as well as providing tutoring to adults learning English as a second language.

Surviving Katherine are her children and their families: Jeffrey W. Hodges of New York, NY, and Fran L. Clark of Fairfield, IA. She was grandmother to two granddaughters: Rebecca Hodges and Colette "Coco" M. Clark.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Robert Kurtz, and son-in-law, Henry Ogden Clark.
