Katherine Elizabeth Pfeifer

Katherine E. Pfeifer, age 86, of Birmingham, IA, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009 at Jefferson County Health Center.

Family visitation will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Behner Funeral Home between 6:30-8 PM.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham following the service.

Katherine Elizabeth Pfeifer was born July 16, 1922 in Easton, IL to Crawford and Emma (Peplow) Skaggs. She was united in marriage with W. Scott Pfeifer in the Free Methodist Church in Birmingham on January 16, 1960.

Katherine was a homemaker and worked for the Van Buren Telephone Company for many years. She and her husband camped at the Iowa State Fair for over 50 years. She enjoyed lighthouses,crossword puzzles, crafts and babysiting the Birmingham community. She attended Bethel Worship Center in Douds.

She is survived by her children and their families: Judy (Robert) McClaran of Birmingham, Jackie Smith of Fairfield, Gary (Corliss) Howard of Omaha, NE, and Jim (Lori) Pfeifer of Milford, CA. Grandma Kate was blessed with ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchidren. Survivors include a sister and a brother: Dora McWhirter and Howard Skaggs, both of Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Wilda Booth, Betty Jean Skaggs, Lyle Skaggs, Bill Skaggs, and Jim Skaggs.
