Kenneth "Kenny" E. Duke Jr.

Kenneth (Kenny) E. Duke, Jr., 87, of Keosauqua, IA passed away at the Van Buren County Hospital on January 22, 2021. He was born April 22, 1933 at his grandparent’s house in Burlington, IA to Kenneth Sr. and Harriett Lavine Duke. They moved near Danville, IA, when he was about 12 years of age. He married Colleen Stigge on March 21, 1953 in Prairie Grove, IA and together, they raised two children, Steve and Lisa. They later divorced.

Kenny was a TV antenna repairman before going to college at Graceland University, earning a bachelor’s degree in religion and education. In 1964, he moved to Van Buren County, IA where he farmed. He also taught for a short time in the Harmony school district and finished up his teaching career by working over 30 years at Indian Hills Community College, helping people get their GED diplomas. Kenny enjoyed ice skating, planting trees, raising his farm animals, reading, traveling, and helping those in need. He met many friends while on his various vacations. Kenny was an active church member. He enjoyed many things in life and always had new projects planned. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, former students, and colleagues.

Kenny is survived by a son, Steven (Cheryl) Duke of Keosauqua; a daughter, Lisa (Mark) Denney of Keosauqua; five grandchildren, Justin Burger, Travis Duke, Olivia Denney, Ethan Denney, and Austin Denney, two sisters, Becky (David) Cool of St. Joe, MO and Rosie (Dennis) Engle of Ogallala, NE, sister-in-law, Jo Ann (Dean) Taeger of Mediapolis, IA.

He was proceeded in death by his former wife, Colleen, his parents, a brother, Larry Duke, and a brother-in-law, Leonard Thye.
