Larry Allen Slocum

August 6, 1948 — May 2, 2023

Larry Allen Slocum was born in 1948 in Bakersfield California. His father Earl Slocum was a Dive Master in the US Navy and was stationed in Hawaii on December 7th,1941 during the Pearl Harbor attacks on the USS Arizona and many other ships he was instrumental in saving and searching for missing service personnel.

His Mom, Maxine Tuttle was from Hannibal Missouri, and grew up swimming in the Mississippi River.

He was also preceded in death by his only brother James Slocum.

Larry was in the US Army until 1968 and then went to school in Hawaii, while he worked on his pilot's license there. He went on to fly one of the 1st aircraft that the TM organization bought in the 1970s, a Douglas DC3 aircraft.

He then completed the first part TM Teacher Training in Fairfield while attending MIU.

He flew various aircraft in his career from small single engine aircraft that were used for flight instruction and on to Larger Corporate Jets for many Companies here in Fairfield and Around the World.

When he left the aviation world, he decided to spend a year or so riding his Harley Davidson around Europe with the Iowa license plate JET HOG.

He had two daughters 1 named Sarah Berg of D.C. and the other was named Leigh Cannella.

Leigh and her husband Giuseppi Cannella of Ocean City Maryland have 3 children (Larry's Grandchildren)

After Larry returned from his European motorcycle trip, he then traveled the US in a large RV through many of the National and State Parks on the west coast.

In 2006 he settled back in Fairfield to be part of the large Meditation group established here.

He will be missed, loved and remembered by his many friends in Fairfield and throughout the world that were part of the Transcendental Meditation community and also his 2 daughters and his 3 grandchildren and his nephew, Bryan Slocum of Indiana.

We would also love to thank the wonderful people at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown Iowa. For their wonderful and loving care that was presented to Larry over the past 12 months.
