Laurel "Laurie" Anne Woody

February 17, 1941 — May 27, 2014

Laurel “Laurie” A. Woody, age 73 of Fairfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 27, 2014. She passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 2, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Fairfield, with Charles E. Comfort officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.at First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Jefferson County Health Center Foundation. Cards and memorials may be sent to Ray Woody at 2261 Glasgow Road, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Laurel was born February 17, 1941, in New Haven, CT. to Lawrence C. Held and Mary Talmadge Held. She married Ray Woody August 16, 1963 in Arlington, TX.

She worked as an elementary teacher for 31 years, mostly at Washington School in Fairfield. After retiring, she volunteered her time, enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and helping at the Jefferson County Health Center gift shop. Her main interest though, was serving in many capacities at First Baptist Church, including choir, Awana, and the Christian Education Board. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Iowa Reading Association.

Laurie is survived by her husband, Ray Woody of Fairfield, 2 Children: Stacey (Chris) Thebodo of Orwell, VT and Todd Woody of Iowa City, IA. 3 Grandchildren: Zoey Thebodo, Mia Thebodo and Oliver Woody. 3 Siblings: Diane (Dave) Burwell of Elbert, CO., Lawrence Held Jr. of Fairfield, IA., and Peter (Robin) Held of Dayton, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
