Leland 'Doug' Douglas Morrison

Leland ‘Doug’ Douglas Morrison, age 88, of Fairfield passed away, Friday, June 5, 2015 at his home.

Per his wishes he has been cremated and a private memorial service was held.

Leland was born March 17, 1927 Washington, IA to Leland P. ‘Shorty’ and Mary Lucille (Douglas) Morrison. He married Carole Jeanne Goodwin October 12, 1985.

Doug graduated from Fairfield High School in 1945. After high school he attended Parsons College for one year, graduated from Commercial Trade Institute, Chicago, IL as a refrigeration technician. He did his electrical apprenticeship in Knoxville, TN, Newton, IA and Las Cruces, NM. Doug served in the US Army and after basic training at Camp Cooke, CA with 40th Infantry Division; he graduated from leadership school at Camp Roberts, CA. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from Oregon State University. As a forester with the US Bureau of Land Management he worked in Salem, Eugene, Roseburg, Medford Districts & Oregon state office. Doug was Chief of Acquisition of Lands & interest in Lands for Oregon & Washington and served as an instructor for other western states.

Doug was a member of the American Legion (life), The Public Lands Foundation (life), The National Association of Retired Federal Employees (life), Clinton Lodge #15, AF& AM, The American Association of Retired Persons, International Right of Way Association (senior #111), Walton Club, United States Golf Society (life) and The Handyman Club of America (life).

Doug is survived by his wife, Carole Morrison; two daughters, Camila Morrison of Vancouver, WA and Gayle Duncan of Seattle, WA; two step children, Patrick O’Neill of Wichita, KS and Tim O’Neill of Fairfield, IA.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mary ‘Kate’ Angstead of Aurora, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one step daughter, Kerry Hickenbottom.
