Lloyd Merle Ferrel, 80, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with the family present from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Funeral services celebrating his life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 11th at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville. Burial will be at Fell Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
Merle was born August 30, 1943 in Ottumwa, the son of Lloyd Merwin and Dorotha Myrle (McBride) Ferrel. He married Helen Kae Johnston, May 14, 1966 in Omaha.
Throughout his life, Merle worked for Chain in Cable, Rockwell, Meritor, and the Fairfield Community School District as a custodian and bus driver.
Merle enjoyed working on the farm, tinkering with his machinery. He enjoyed hunting, watching sports and driving the school bus. Merle loved spending time with his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Helen; daughters, Cynthia Lou (Wayne) Schnieder of Arlington, Minnesota and Elizabeth Marie (Fred) Clubb of Batavia; sons, Brian (Dena) Ferrel of Kahoka, Missouri and Scott Ferrel; 10 grandchildren, one step-grandchild, 8 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Eva Russel of Moberly, Missouri; and brother, Darrel Ferrel of Kansas City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Dorotha Angeline; and brother, Larry.
