Loretta L. Atwood

Lockridge

Loretta L. Atwood, 58, a resident of Lockridge, gained her angel wings Thursday, September 26, 2024.

Loretta is survived by her mother, Alicia Harrison; sister, Rhonda Picha; children, Mark Atwood, Alicia Atwood; stepchildren, which “were her own” she would say, Lori Phongsavanh, Jerry Chiles (Carrie Chiles), and Steven Chiles (Meagan Chiles); 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 Nephews; and many more loved ones!

Loretta is reunited in Heaven with her father, Harvey Lee Harrison Sr.; sister, Lisa Harrison; brother, Harvey Lee Harrison Jr.; and many more family and friends.

Loretta was born in Creston, Iowa, and grew up in Lorimor, Iowa with her sister, Rhonda and brother, Lee. When she moved to Des Moines she met her ex-husband, Jerry Atwood. She Had two beautiful children, Mark and Alicia, but also gained three step-children “that were like her own”, Lori, Jerry, and Steven.

She worked as a C.N.A for 18 years. She was so passionate about healthcare. Her Dream was to be a doctor, her 2nd year in college she hurt herself too bad to continue, but that didn't slow her down. She then went on working two jobs being a single mom. Over several years she became disabled. She almost lost her life twice when she then decided to take life by the horns and work harder than she ever had to becoming better than ever she was in her 2nd year of collage online to becoming a healthcare administrator. She had several surgeries to where she was able to move better and do more things than she could before! Her dream was to open a Nursing Facility and run it the way she thought it should be ran! And the one that she had always dreamed of working at. She had the biggest heart, room for anyone and everyone. She would give the shirt off her back if it meant it helped someone else. She was stronger than an Ox with a heart bigger than this world.

She may have flown away home, but she left the biggest imprint here on Earth.
