Louis Fred Pratt

In accordance with Fred's wishes, his body has been cremated. Graveside memorial services were held 9:00 AM, Monday, January 23, 2006 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Pastor Danny Cary spoke words of comfort.

Louis Fred Pratt was born August 17, 1927 in Utica, IA (Van buren County). He was the son of Ira and Lola G. (Clark) Pratt. Fred was a longtime resident of the Van Buren County area, graduating from stockport High School in 1945.

Fred was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Before his induction, he was employed at the Allis Chalmers Factory in Cedar Rapids and returned to his job there after his discharge. Fred married Darlene Louise Marshall on June 5, 1955 at the Christian Church in Fairfield. They were the parents of four children: Holly, Doug, Peggy and Gayle. Darlene passed away September 1, 2005.

Fred joined Prairie Grain Elevator in stockport in 1953 and worked there for 27 years. He then went to work at the Jefferson County Hospital for 8 years. Fred was a life member of V.F.W. Post #2271 in Fairfield.

Fred is survived by his children and their families: Holly Pratt of St. Louis, MO, Doug Pratt and wife Teri of DeWitt IA, Peggy Stevens and husband Tony of keosauqua, IA and Gayle Hervy and husband Kevin of keosauqua, IA. Survivors include a brother, Bob Pratt of DeWitt, IA and a sister, Carol Ann Chapman of Fairfield, IA.

Fred was grandfather to: Joey Aguirre, Amy Pratt, Andy Pratt, Marshall Stevens, Louis Stevens, Kyle Kervey, Erin Hervey, Jordan Hervey and Molly Hervey.

Predeceasing Fred are his parents, his wife Darlene, two grandchildren and one sister, Jeanette.
