I. Lucille Spates, age 93, of Fairfield, IA, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Jefferson County, Hospital Living Care Center in Fairfield.
Funeral services were held 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Her body has been cremated, and inurnment will be in Letts Cemetery in Letts, IA.
Memorials may be made in Lucille's memory to the Jefferson County Living Care Center.

I. Lucille Spates was born December 19, 1912 in Letts, IA, the daughter of Lloyd M. and Louella (Jones) Littrel. She graduated from Letts High School with the Class of 1932. Lucille was united in marriage with Charles D. Spates on September 23, 1939 in Fairfield. They were the parents of two children: Leah and Lloyd. Charles died July 24, 1984.
Lucille was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed briefly as a telephone operator in Des Moines during WWII, and she was a teacher for 8 years with Muscatine County Schools. Lucille was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1939.
Lucille is survived by her children and their families: Leah Canfield of Fairfield, and Lloyd and Diana Spates of Douds, IA. Lucille has five grandchildren: Sara Lane and husband Brian, Amy LaCroix and husband Mark, April Canfield, Beth Spates and Shelby Spates, and two step-grandchildren: Lacey Weller and Leslie Weller. Lucille has four great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her brother, Maurice "Bud" Littrel of Muscatine, and several nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and three brothers: Leona Schafer, Leah Smith, Ruth Reid, Howard Littrel, Wayne Littrel, and Harold Littrel.
