Lynn H. Schimmels, age 78 of Fairfield, IA passed away Sunday July 27, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, in Iowa City, IA.
According to his wishes the body has been cremated.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday July 29, 2008 at the Senior Citizen Center in Fairfield, IA with Pastor Keevin Koch officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in Chapel Hills Gardens Cemetery in OakBrook Terrace, IL.

Lynn H. Schimmels was born March 30, 1930 in Naponee, NE to Antone and Josie Gertrude (Hays) Schimmels. He was a U.S. veteran serving in the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage with Imogene Bailey on March 17, 1956 and she died Sept. 12, 1994. They were the parents of Glenna, Billie and Gerald.
Lynn was a member of the Fairfield community for the past 13 years. He was a laborer for Assembled Circuits and retired in 1995. He enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals in his RV, and his hobbies included car races, collecting clocks, shopping, and small engine repair. He was a caller at Senior Citizens Bingo. Lynn considered himself blessed with spending quality time with family and friends.
He is survived by a special companion, Eileen Harper of Fairfield, and his children and their families: Glenna Sasser and husband James of Crystal River, FL, Billie Montoya of Polo, IL, and Gerald Ausman and wife Pam of Fairfield, IA. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchilren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and five brothers: Kathleen Morford, Irene Sitts, Merle, Wayne, Winfred, DeLoyd, and Gerald Schimmels.
