M. Lucille Cox, age 99, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa.

Funeral Services were held 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Rev. Phil Campbell officiated. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

M. Lucille Cox was born nearly a century ago on October 9, 1906 in Fairfield, the daughter of Samuel and Amelia (Leafgreen) Davidson. Lucille lived all her life in the Birmingham/Fairfield area. As a child, her most eventful memory was when Rev. A.K. Harper took her to sing a church in Washington, Iowa where she was the hit of the evening.

Lucille married A. Dale Cox in Washington, Iowa on October 23, 1937. They were the parents of one daughter, JoAnn.

Lucille was first employed as a telephone operator in Mt. Pleasant, IA, and the Fairfield Glove Factory. Lucille was the head cook at Fairfield High School and also later at Parsons College from where she retired.

Lucille crocheted afghans and enjoyed attending the Bluegrass Festival in Drakesville. She played the piano and organ by ear, enjoyed sight-seeing and was partial to cats. Lucille was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Birmingham.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Davidson and husband Everett of Birmingham. Lucille was grandmother to three granddaughters: Karen Taylor, Vickie Wahl and Pamela Barnett. She had 6 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale on February 6, 2002, brother Kenneth, a grandson and several nieces and nephews.
