Mabel Elna Moyers Haines, age 86, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at Pleasant Manor Care Center, Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 30, 2014 10:00 am at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Stacy Grau officiating. Burial will be at Lockridge Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Behner Funeral Home.

Mabel was born January 19, 1928 in Burlington, IA to Lloyd and Ruth (Youngberg) Moyers. October 9, 1955 she married Ernest Haines at Bethany Lutheran Church in Burlington, IA.

She attended Fairview Benton Country School, graduated valedictorian with the class of 1945 from Mediapolis and attended 2 years at the Burlington Business College. Mabel was on the first girls’ basketball team for Mediapolis. She worked at Security Laboratories, Riley Brothers Oil, Iowa Ammunition Plant, Jefferson County Hospital and the Fairfield Sale Barn. Mabel was also a loving mother and farm wife. She and Ernie farmed in the Lockridge area over 40 years. Mabel enjoyed going with Ernie to the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion every year. She enjoyed gardening; card playing, dancing, playing accordion, piano, and harmonica; picking blackberries and mushroom hunting. Mabel and Ernie both enjoyed going and watching their kids and grandkids sports activities. She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Ernest of Fairfield, IA; 5 children, Elna Haines of Bloomfield, IA, William (Bettye) Haines of Fairfield, IA, Janet (Chuck) Sutter of Mt Pleasant, IA, Leo (Georgia) Haines of Brighton, IA, son–in–law, Jerry Harvey of West Point, IA and Ron (Heidi) Haines of Fairfield, IA; 20 grandchildren, Travis, Ashley and Leah Harvey, Jessica Hines, Brandon, Kiley, Brock, Aaron and Evan Haines, Gwinivere, Joseph, George, Olivia, John, Paul Hittner, Mathew and Rose Smith, Melissa McCants, Lamont Sutter and Christina Mathews; and 1 sister Betty Long of Lockridge, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Ethel, Caroline; 2 brothers, Lloyd, Doyle; and 1 daughter, Karla Harvey.
