Margaret "Maggie" E. Carlson, age 87 of Fairfield, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Sunnybrook Living Care Center.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Rev. Mike Metz officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home.

Margaret was born November 8, 1923 in Donnellson, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Alberta McKee. She married Jack Carlson on September 7, 1941. He passed away on November 7, 2000.

She graduated from Fairfield High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She has been a lifetime resident of Fairfield. Her hobbies included crafts and sewing. She loved music, but especially playing piano and organ at family gatherings. Jack and Maggie really enjoyed dancing. In her earlier years, horses were a family love, which included trail rides and horse shows. In 1954, the family made the trip to the Iowa State Fair in a covered wagon.

Survivors include 1 son: Michael Carlson and 1 daughter: Sheryl (Jeff) Payne of Fairfield, 3 grandchildren: Casey Carlson, Christopher Carlson and Jessica (Brad) Payne Runyon, 2 great-grandchildren: Aiden and Owen Runyon and 1 brother: Robert McKee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Jack, 1 daughter: Lori Carlson and 1 brother: Don McKee.
