Martha Louise Messer, 80, of Parkview Care Center of Fairfield, died March 3, 2006 at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield from complications due to a serious illness.

Following her wishes, the body has been cremated. Graveside services were held 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.

Martha was born in Mt. Pleasant on March 22, 1925 and lived in Washington, IA before moving to Des Moines, IA 43 years ago. With the death of her husband, Melvin, in 2000, she moved to Keosauqua, IA and just recently transferred to Parkview Care Center in Fairfield, IA.

Martha lived her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with all of her "children". Before her husband's retirement from allied Van Lines, she was able to travel with him throughout the United States.

Martha is survived by her son, Richard Messer of Polk City, and two daughters: Joanne Warren of Des Moines, IA and Becky Whitaker of Keosauqua, IA. Martha has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
