Marvin Harper Curtis

Memorial services were held 1:30 PM, Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Rev. Mike Metz officiated.

Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Brighton, IA.

Mr. Curtis was born September 5, 1938 near Piqua, Ohio, the son of Glen and Lear Harper. He graduated from high school in 1956 and went on to attend Wright University in Dayton, Ohio and the University of Southern California.

Mr. Curtis spoke five languages, Arabic, Yiddish, Hebrew, French and German. He spent several years in Saudi Arabia and Israel working for the airline industry. As a scholar of Shakespeare, he attended the Globe Theater in London and Wimbledon tennis tournaments when he traveled.

For the past eight years, Mr. Curtis was employed by Mt. Pleasant Community Schools and the Mt. Pleasant Travel Agency. He loved college and high school sports and was always quick to encourage young people. Mr. Curtis followed the Ohio State Buckeyes, USC, the Iowa Hawkeyes and local teams. He enjoyed traveling immensely and in the past few years journeyed to Brazil and Israel.

Mr. Curtis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairfield, Iowa, taught Sunday school and helped with services at the Jewish Temple.

A sister, Uva Myers, of Dayton, Ohio survives Mr. Curtis. He will be sadly missed and fondly and respectfully remembered by his many friends.
